Mechanics

We decided from the start that we wanted controls that would allow the player to move in many various ways, giving them as much control as possible. We planned out how the control scheme would work, thinking of how we could utilise the triggers to allow many different maneuvers with different combinations.

We also looked into how the player would be interacting with the puzzles. While we haven't developed all of the puzzles, we made a start by looking at Indiana Jones. In one of the films, Jones has to step across a floor and spell out a word. we looked at this and made the idea that the player would be given some clues of some kind to figure out the word and then make an attempt to cross by pressing different buttons (as shown below). If they got it right, they could advance, and if they got it wrong something bad would happen (such as falling through the floor).

Also tried working it into a concept image to give an idea of how it would look like within the game's environment.

Environment concepts

As our artifact was from the Tibetan area, we decided that this would be a good place to base our environment from. Tibet has a wide range of different places, mountainous and plains, jungles and forests. This allowed us for a very interesting range of places for the player to visit.

I first looked into how the Empire would look. For this, I looked into high density areas such as Delhi in India as it's densely populated. Of course, I also looked into Tibetan architecture and incorporated common themes into the designs as well. For each area I designed, I looked into real places that I drew inspiration from, such as Ta Prohm, an ancient overgrown temple. I varied as much as I can between the different places the player could visit, from the Empire to ancient ruins etc.

Inspiration and resource images:

From the above images, I gathered common themes from each of them, through architecture and how the environment overruns the ruins etc. and tried to incorporate them as best I could in the images below.
